Springfield Hawks Resources and Policies
The information on these pages is designed to help players, coaches, referees and team managers keep up to date with the latest information issued by the Australian Rugby Union (ARU), the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union (BJRU) and the current documents and policies in use at our club.
Springfield Hawks endorses and will abide by policies and procedures adopted and designated as applicable to it by the Governing Bodies (being the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union, the Queensland Junior Rugby Union, Queensland Rugby Referees Association, Queensland Rugby Union, Rugby Australia and World Rugby). Refund Policy
The Club does not receive refunds from RA or QRU and therefore refunds are only available under the below conditions.
1. If the club in unable to provide a team for a player
2. If a junior player leaves at anytime before the first game they will receive a full refund
Payment and Play Policy
The Club endorses a “No Pay – No Play Policy”. If payment is not received by the first trial game the player will not be allowed to take the field. If a player is deregistered any prior part payments will not be refunded.
Equal Game Time
The BJRU Club Handbook, 4.4 Coach’s Code, item 4 states:
Ensure that all players get a game. The “just average” players need and deserve equal time. Subject to the “No Train Reduced Play Policy”, coaches should monitor players’ game time each week to ensure this rule is followed. Consideration will be given and allowances made in circumstances where injury or positional requirement (e.g front row) does not allow equal game time for all players.
No Train Reduced Play Policy
A player that does not regularly train cannot expect to receive equal game time.
Bullying Policy
The Rugby Australia Member Protection Policy reiterates Australian Rugby’s commitment to ensuring that every person involved in rugby is treated with respect and dignity, and is safe and protected from harassment, discrimination, bullying, abuse and other unfair or inappropriate conduct.
Everyone involved in Rugby should familiarise themselves with the Member Protection Policy and the standards of behaviour expected of all participants. If you are a victim of Bullying or have witnessed any Bullying, you should immediately contact the club.

Wet Weather Policy
If matches are cancelled due to ground closures or due to the forfeit of the opposing team, every effort will be made to contact players/families via the team manager. Springfield Lakes Hawks adhere to the BJRU Wet Weather Procedure Policy.
Blue Card Concussion Policy
A player suspected of having suffered a concussion will be shown a blue card by the match referee and will take no further part in the match.
Code of Conduct
BJRU would like to make the following messages very clear:
- POOR PLAYER BEHAVIOUR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED may that be towards another player, team or any match official. This includes social media and outside game situations. If a player is identified as having threatened, maligned, slandered, or denigrated another player, or club, or match official, that player will be removed from the competition’s Grand Final eligibility. In the matter on online threats of physical harm, the matter will be referred to the police for heir action. Further sanctions as to their continued participation in club rugby union will also be a matter for the judicial process.
- TEAM MANAGEMENT IS EXPECTED TO BEHAVE IN A MANNER THAT EXEMPLIFIES THE VALUES AND STANDARDS OF RUGBY UNION IN AUSTRALIA. Your role is to coach our players. It is not to question the referee, the assistant referees or ridicule your own or your opposition players or team management.

- ALL TEAM MANAGEMENT (with the exception of sports trainers) ARE TO REMAIN IN THE COACHING ENCLOSURES (NOT ON THE SIDELINE OR IN FRONT OF THE COACHING ENCLOSURES).
- Players are to remain seated (on the ground if necessary) unless warming up.
- Sports trainers may kneel in the outlined trainer’s boxes. THEY MAY NOT CALL OUT and CANNOT MOVE FROM THE CONFINES OF THE BOX UNLESS RUNNING WATER OR providing medical treatment.
Failure to follow the above may see you removed from the coaching area.

- Assistant Referees – MUST BE PROVIDED BY EACH TEAM, WEAR A VEST AND BE OLDER THAN 18 (this is an u18 Competition and no younger brothers or family members will be allowed to run the line)
- Field Marshalls – MUST BE PROVIDED BY THE HOSTING CLUB AND WEAR A VEST SUPPLIED BY THE CLUB – responsible for ensuring your players, spectators and team management behave.
- Medics – MUST BE PROVIDED BY THE HOSTING CLUB AND WEAR A VEST TO BE EASILY IDENTIFIED
- WINNING OR LOSING WITH GRACE AND DIGNITY. Not every team will win when playing on Sundays. Please ensure that your celebrations are not an insult to the opposition. If you lose, do not demonstrate poor sportsmanship. Remember to always thank your opposition, match officials and team management and spectators.
