Introducing the New “Get into Rugby” Program for Little Hawks Age bracket.
The Springfield Hawks Rugby Club is excited to announce updates to our Little Hawks rugby program! Starting in 2025, we are aligning with Rugby Australia’s newly introduced “Get into Rugby” program for children aged 4-7. These changes are designed to provide a safe, fun, and development-focused introduction to rugby, giving younger players the skills and confidence they need to transition smoothly into tackle rugby at age 8.

What’s New?
1. “Get into Rugby – Walla” for Ages 4-5
Our youngest players will now take part in the Walla Rugby program, emphasizing fundamental movement and introducing core rugby skills like catching, passing, and kicking in a playful, non-contact environment.
2. “Get into Rugby – Tri Time” for Ages 6-7
Older participants will progress to Tri Time Rugby, a modified tag rugby format that includes skill refinement, small-sided games, and non-contact match play. This stage prepares them for Junior Rugby with a focus on teamwork and contact readiness.

Why Choose Tag Rugby for Young Players?
Safety and Confidence:
Tag Rugby eliminates tackling, reducing the risk of injuries while still fostering confidence in core rugby movements.
Skill Development:
Through activities like evasion games and passing drills, young players develop coordination, teamwork, and rugby-specific skills in a structured environment.
Progressive Pathway:
The program is specifically designed to transition players from non-contact games to tackle rugby. By the time participants reach U8, they will have the fundamental skills and readiness for tackle rugby.
Inclusive Fun:
Mixed-gender participation ensures an inclusive environment, with activities designed to engage players of all skill levels and abilities.
Affordable Access:
Registration costs remain low, and every participant will receive a Gilbert rugby ball and Tri Tag belt as part of their package.
