🦅 Under 10s – Courage, Contact, and Club Spirit

The 2025 Under 10s have taken a big step in their rugby journey this season. Coached by Matt and Terry and managed by Glen, this team brings together a fantastic group of players who are learning, growing, and playing with real heart.

This is also our final mixed-gender team at Springfield Lakes Hawks, making it a special part of our junior pathway. Boys and girls train, learn, and compete side by side before moving into gender-specific age groups from Under 12 and up.

🏉 Embracing Full Contact Rugby

For many of these players, this is their first season of rugby, and they are stepping into the tackle format with determination and a willingness to learn.

The season so far has focused on:
Learning safe and confident tackling
Understanding space, structure, and movement across the field
Clear communication and teamwork
Supporting one another through new challenges

The mix of experienced players and first-timers has created a supportive team culture where every player feels included and encouraged.

💪 Learning Together, Playing with Pride

Our Under 10s are learning the game together and already showing major progress. With each training session and match, they are gaining confidence and building strong habits that will serve them for seasons to come.

This team has shown:
Courage in contact situations
Rapid growth in game awareness
A positive and respectful sideline culture
Pride in representing the club and each other

The coaching team has created an environment where players feel safe to learn, make mistakes, and keep pushing forward as a group.

The Under 10s are a proud and important part of our club, carrying the spirit of mixed rugby into their next chapters.
We are excited to see where this special group goes from here

🦅 Under 9s – Focused, Fast, and Ready for the Next Level

The 2025 Under 9s have stepped up with intensity and purpose this season. Coached with care and determination by Jarred and Sean and managed by Kelly, this group has taken everything they have learned over the past few years and brought it together on the field.

They are strong, organised, and building a deeper understanding of the game with every round.

🏉 Full Tackle, Full Commitment

Now settled into the full tackle version of rugby with contestable rucks, the Under 9s are showing clear development in their technique, spacing, and game awareness. They are no longer just reacting. They are thinking, planning, and playing as a team.

This season has focused on safe and powerful contact, strong support play, and learning to read the game under pressure.

💪 Growth in Every Game

This team has shown consistent improvement thanks to their hard work and the leadership around them. So far this year they have displayed:

Reliable tackle technique and good body position
Improved communication between players
A strong team bond and willingness to support each other
Confidence to run forward and commit to each play

They are learning how to work together to problem solve on the field and keep possession under pressure. These are the building blocks of strong future rugby players.

The Under 9s represent the strength of our club’s junior pathway and the rewards that come with time, guidance, and effort.
We are proud of how far they have come already

The 2025 Under 8s have brought energy, determination, and a great sense of teamwork to the field this season. Coached by Nathan and Cody and managed by Jamie, this team is showing exactly what a few seasons of rugby experience can build.

🏉 Stepping Up into Tackle Rugby

Now playing in the tackle format, the Under 8s have made the leap from touch to contact rugby. With two years of playing experience under their belts, they are ready for the challenge.

This season focuses on safe and effective tackling, positional awareness, and working as a unit both in attack and defence. The team has handled this transition with maturity, effort, and a strong willingness to learn.

💪 Confidence on the Field

Confidence building has been a major part of their success this year. With supportive coaching and consistent effort, the players are now:

Showing bravery in contact situations
Communicating clearly on the field
Playing with improved structure and focus
Supporting one another every step of the way

This team is not just learning the game, they are embracing it. Their growth over the first part of the season has been a joy to watch.

Our Under 8s are proud to wear the Hawks jersey and represent the future of our club.
Keep watching for more highlights and standout moments from this exciting group

Our 2025 Under 7s are off to a flying start this season, coached by the enthusiastic John and capably managed by Hannah. This group is full of energy, laughter, and fast feet. They are showing real promise on the field and growing in confidence every week.

🏉 Building on Tri Tag Basics

Now in their second year of modified rugby, our Under 7s continue to play Get Into Rugby Tri Tag. It is a non-contact format designed to teach the core elements of rugby while keeping it fun and inclusive.

Players wear belts with tags attached at the hips
The aim is to pull the tags instead of tackling
The game is fast paced, team focused, and full of running rugby

This format helps players improve their passing, evasion, and awareness while building confidence and teamwork in a safe and exciting way.

💪 A Team on the Rise

With John leading high energy training sessions and Hannah keeping everything running smoothly, the Under 7s are thriving.

So far this season they have shown strong team connection, sharp improvements in gameplay, and a love for the sport that shines through every time they take the field.

They are playful, determined, and building the foundation for a bright rugby future.

From warm ups to full time, these Little Hawks are loving every moment of their 2025 rugby journey.

Introducing the New “Get into Rugby” Program for Little Hawks Age bracket.

The Springfield Hawks Rugby Club is excited to announce updates to our Little Hawks rugby program! Starting in 2025, we are aligning with Rugby Australia’s newly introduced “Get into Rugby” program for children aged 4-7. These changes are designed to provide a safe, fun, and development-focused introduction to rugby, giving younger players the skills and confidence they need to transition smoothly into tackle rugby at age 8.

What’s New?

1. “Get into Rugby – Walla” for Ages 4-5

Our youngest players will now take part in the Walla Rugby program, emphasizing fundamental movement and introducing core rugby skills like catching, passing, and kicking in a playful, non-contact environment.

2. “Get into Rugby – Tri Time” for Ages 6-7

Older participants will progress to Tri Time Rugby, a modified tag rugby format that includes skill refinement, small-sided games, and non-contact match play. This stage prepares them for Junior Rugby with a focus on teamwork and contact readiness.

Why Choose Tag Rugby for Young Players?

Safety and Confidence:

Tag Rugby eliminates tackling, reducing the risk of injuries while still fostering confidence in core rugby movements.

Skill Development:

Through activities like evasion games and passing drills, young players develop coordination, teamwork, and rugby-specific skills in a structured environment.

Progressive Pathway:

The program is specifically designed to transition players from non-contact games to tackle rugby. By the time participants reach U8, they will have the fundamental skills and readiness for tackle rugby.

Inclusive Fun:

Mixed-gender participation ensures an inclusive environment, with activities designed to engage players of all skill levels and abilities.

Affordable Access:

Registration costs remain low, and every participant will receive a Gilbert rugby ball and Tri Tag belt as part of their package.

What’s a Session Like?

Each 45-60 minute session includes:

Activations: Fun, movement-focused warm-up activities.

Skills Training: Drills to develop core rugby skills such as passing and evasion.

Match Play: Age-appropriate games to apply new skills in a game-like setting.

Looking Ahead

Our mission is to provide a positive first rugby experience while preparing players for future success. This update ensures the Springfield Hawks’ Little Hawks program aligns with the national vision, creating a unified pathway for young athletes.

We can’t wait to see our youngest players thriving in the new “Get into Rugby” program. Join us in fostering the next generation of rugby stars!
