“Double Trouble 7s” What It’s All About

Held across two huge days on November 22 and 23 at Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast, the Double Trouble 7s is more than just a tournament. It’s a full rugby festival that draws teams from across the state for a weekend of competition, community, and celebration of the game we all love.

What is the Double Trouble 7s?

The Double Trouble 7s (DBL TRUBL) is a massive junior sevens carnival that brings together hundreds of players and families in a vibrant, festival-style environment. It’s fast-paced, exciting rugby, with teams competing back-to-back across both days.

For our Hawks girls, it’s a chance to play against some of the strongest sides in Queensland, grow their skills in a high-energy competition, and proudly represent Springfield on one of the biggest stages of the junior season.

Why It Matters for the Hawks

This tournament is a milestone moment for our girls program. It provides:

  • Elite exposure: playing against teams from across the state.
  • Development opportunities: building confidence and resilience in a festival setting.
  • Pathways for the future: helping strengthen our girls’ rugby pathway into senior women’s rugby.
  • Community pride: showing that Springfield girls’ rugby is on the rise.

By competing in Double Trouble 7s, our Hawks are not only testing themselves on the field but also inspiring younger players to join the sport.

How We’re Making It Happen

Attending a two-day tournament comes with costs including team entry fees, medical cover, uniforms, and accommodation. To give our girls the best experience, we’ll be staying at the Gold Coast Performance Centre, located right next door to the playing fields. This not only reduces travel stress but also ensures the teams can focus fully on their preparation and recovery between matches.

To help keep the experience accessible and affordable for families, we’re opening up sponsorship opportunities for local businesses.

We’ve designed Platinum and Bronze packages, giving sponsors the chance to have their logos proudly displayed on team jerseys and to be promoted across our social media and community platforms.

This means every sponsor directly supports our players, while gaining exposure to hundreds of families and fans during the event.

Join Us on the Journey

The Double Trouble 7s is about more than rugby it’s about giving our girls the chance to dream bigger, play harder, and represent Springfield with pride.

We’d love our community and local businesses to get behind this exciting opportunity. Together, we can make Double Trouble 7s a highlight of the year for our Hawks girls.

Springfield Lakes Hawks Officially Open New Club Facilities
A Milestone Moment for Our Community Club

After more than three years of planning, persistence, and hard work, Springfield Lakes Hawks Rugby Club is proud to officially open our brand new club facilities. This major milestone marks the beginning of a new era for our players, families, and community.

Led by Club President Shay Randle, this project has been about more than bricks and mortar. It represents years of effort to create a home for rugby in our region. A home built not just for the game itself, but for the people who bring it to life. From concept through construction, every step forward has been guided by a belief in what our club could become.

A Huge Thank You, Hawks Family

To all our players, families, and staff, thank you for making this past weekend such a special one.

To everyone who donated to the bake sale, your generosity made a real difference. To our players, thank you for giving it your all. You showed heart, skill, and outstanding sportsmanship in every game. A big thank you to our amazing volunteers and Under 15 girls for welcoming guests, serving great food, and representing everything this club stands for with warmth and pride.

A special acknowledgement goes to Nathan and the field crew. Your huge effort in getting the venue prepared, particularly under tight timeframes and the added challenge of hosting our very first Junior Hub, did not go unnoticed. You completed the job with professionalism and pride.

Out here on the outskirts, we remain a community first, family based club and it shows. There are no egos. Just people turning up and putting in the work for the love of the game and the benefit of the kids. That spirit is what makes our club culture so special.

A Facility That Changes Everything

Saturday was more than just a great game day. It also marked the official launch of our long awaited clubhouse. With our new facilities now in place, Springfield Lakes Hawks can deliver a full rugby experience both on and off the field.

We now have the capacity to:

• Host finals matches, regional tournaments, and large scale carnivals
• Provide proper change rooms and professional spaces for players and officials
• Create better spectator and team environments
• Support the expansion of our junior, senior, and girls programs
• Build stronger pathways for future generations

This facility is a true game changer. It allows us to look forward with confidence, knowing we now have the infrastructure to support the size, standards, and spirit of our club. It reflects how far we have come. From humble beginnings on borrowed fields to a home we can proudly call our own.

Thank You to Our Sponsors and Supporters

To our valued sponsors, thank you for backing this vision with your time, funding, and continued support. Your belief in our mission has played a vital role in making it a reality. We are proud to stand alongside you and look forward to hosting a finals series with you right here at home.

To every person who contributed from the first conversations to the final touches, thank you. This is your achievement as much as ours. It was built by hands, hearts, and community.

Looking Ahead

As the season progresses:

• Our junior teams head into the school holidays for a well earned break with time for rest, travel, and team bonding
• Our senior men continue their Wyatt Cup campaign with focus and determination
• Our Girls 7s program officially launches on 1 July, setting the stage for BJRU and future tournament opportunities
• On 23 June, we come together again for our first club hangi fundraiser in years. Let us make it a success

From all of us at Springfield Lakes Hawks, thank you for being part of something truly special.

Together, we have built more than just facilities. We have built a future.

The Under 13 Girls are a great example of where passion and support can take a team. They are learning every week and proving that anything is possible with belief and hard work.
